Finno-Ugric Design Day

20 October 2012, 11 am – 3 pm * Museum of Cultures, Helsinki

The Friends of the Finno-Ugric Peoples (Sukukansojen ystävät ry), the Youth Organization of Finno-Ugric Peoples MAFUN, Estonian Academy of Arts and U-Turn NGO are organising a seminar dedicated to Finno-Ugric design on Saturday, 20 October 2012. The event will take place from 11 am to 3 pm at the Museum of Cultures in Helsinki (Tennispalatsi, Eteläinen Rautatiekatu 8).
The Design Day will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with ethnically-influenced design, based on examples from Finno-Ugric peoples. At the event, Marimekko's Head of Fashion Design Noora Niinikoski will give a talk about the productisation of Finnish culture and folk traditions. Moreover, up-and-coming designers belonging to Finno-Ugric peoples (Sami, Estonian, Udmurtian) will present their work.

The Friends of the Finno-Ugric Peoples warmly welcome all event participants to a socialising event at Villi Wäinö Beer House (Kalevankatu 4) at 4 pm. A Finno-Ugric music event will be organized in cooperation with M.A. Castrén Society at the same venue at 6 pm.
